B.Sc. Mathematics with Computer Science
The Bachelor's degree in Mathematics with Computer Science has been offered in Greifswald since 2001. The focus of the program is on mathematical content, but the computer science component, with 50 credit points, is higher than that of a computer science minor. At the beginning of the program, basic knowledge in areas such as analysis, linear algebra, or stochastics is acquired, partly building on the mathematics education in high school. Computer science content, such as programming and the design of algorithms and software, forms an integral and coordinated part of the education. The program allows for elective options amounting to 18 credit points, for example, in machine learning or computer graphics.
We offer students at our institute support in small groups and with personal contact with the instructors. The program offers freedom in the last semester to set subject-specific focuses, for example, with regard to personal interests and inclinations and a possible continuation of the education in a Master's program. The aim of the program is to provide future graduates of the Bachelor of Science in Mathematics with Computer Science with such knowledge, skills, and competencies that they are flexibly employable in professions with computer science and mathematics requirements. Graduates can take on demanding tasks in mathematical modeling, for example, in industry, banks and insurance companies, the information and telecommunications industry, or the natural sciences. The program leads to the degree "Bachelor of Mathematics with Computer Science" within a period of typically 6 semesters.
