I specialize in the field of biological sequence analysis where we combine modern deep learning methods and hidden Markov models (HMMs).

Cornerstone of this work is a differentiable HMM module that can be used as a component in larger models. Our multiple sequence alignment tool learnMSA implements this idea with success. Moreover, we actively work towards harnessing differentiable HMMs in an end-to-end deep learning model for gene prediction.

Beyond my scientific pursuits, I also like to do game development.
