The Bachelor and Master degree Biomathematics evolved from the Diploma degree Biomathematics. The first Bachelor students enrolled in the winter semester 2008/09. The first 12 Bachelor thesis were defended in autumn 2011. All graduates continued with the Master program. It exists since 2011 and the first 7 Master degrees were handed out in 2014.
The Diploma program exists since 1998. It was exceptional successful and ran until 2013. In the end of 2010 the hundredth thesis was defended. In total 160 students received the Diploma degree in Biomathematics.
What is Biomathematics? (article from the journal "Forschung und Lehre", Heft 6, 2015). The fields of application of Biomathematics are various. Biomathematicians are educated to be specialists in interdisciplinary cooperation. For instance in all areas of Life Science a huge amount of data is produced that need to be analysed with the help of mathematical and computational methods.
Therefore, graduates have many opportunities at the labor market as shown in a survey of former graduates. Some results of this survey can be found here.
