Some Results of the Survey of Graduates
After the 100th defense of a Diploma degree in Biomathematics we decided to do a survey. Approximately half of all graduates took part. One fifth of all graduates already became PhD, 60% are still PhD students. One fifth completed internships abroad.
Where are our graduates now?
Approximately 10 percent are abroad (Great Britain, Netherlands, Switzerland, three have been to New Zealand at that time). All others are distributed across Germany, for example in Munich, Stuttgart, Regensburg or Dresden. Some also stayed in Greifswald at the university or work on the island Riems, in Rostock, Warnemünde or Neubrandenburg.
In which areas do you mainly work?
One third works in the medical sector, one third works in fields of Genetics and Ecology. One half of all mathematical areas is occupied by Statistics and Stochastics, 30 percent work in Computer Science and 10 percent in Analysis.
What does your work usually look like?
In contrast to the above numbers approx. 80 percent say, they mainly write programs. Approx. 60 percent work theoretically and develep methods. One fourth have teaching or organisation duties, but only a few graduates work experimentally.
How are you satisfied with the study program in Greifswald in general?
About 70 percent stated that they were satisfied, 10 percent were very satisfied and 15 percent were moderately satisfied. Specific suggestions for improvement were very different. After evaluation they were factored in the study program when possible.
