QuaMath

The quality of teaching determines which learning opportunities children and young people are given. All learners should be encouraged to think actively and develop a mathematical understanding through joint discussions. It is, therefore, essential to further develop teaching - this is where the ten-year QuaMath program of the KMK, together with the German Center for Teacher Education in Mathematics and the IPN, comes in. MaCo

The MaCo project aims to work on the basics of mathematical understanding and basic skills for children and young people at primary and secondary level one who are particularly affected by learning deficits due to the corona crisis. For this purpose, further training and support and teaching materials for teachers, support staff, and non-specialist teachers are offered. In addition, we provide materials for multipliers to design their training courses. (DZLM network project headed by Prof. Dr. S. Prediger, funded by 13 federal state ministries) [more information]

Bella: preservie teachers' beliefs towards mathematical argumentation – a binational project on professional development

The project concerns primary school pre-service teachers' beliefs about mathematical reasoning at the beginning and the end of their university studies. Here, we also want to consider which characteristics of beliefs might be regarded as 'positive'. Our study aims to identify the beliefs about mathematical reasoning with which primary school pre-service teachers begin their teacher education and to what extent differences emerge in comparison to students' beliefs at the end of their studies. Furthermore, parallel studies in Germany and Switzerland will investigate to what extent pre-university socialization or educational structure can be regarded as decisive moments for developing corresponding beliefs. The results of these studies are to be integrated into university teaching, for which we will request funding following the project period. (Cooperation with Prof. Dr. E. Brunner - PH Thurgau, Switzerland)
