Structuring and content

In the first semesters, we will familiarise you with the basics of Mathematics. You then have the opportunity to choose an individual focus within Mathematics for your studies, as well as a related science outside Mathematics as a subsidiary subject. The mathematical focus is formed from the research areas represented at the Institute of Mathematics, for example, you can choose between

  • algebra
  • geometry
  • Numerics
  • optimisation
  • statistic
  • Stochastics
  • Topology

The following elections are currently possible as subsidiary subjects:

  • Theorist Physics
  • Experimental Physics
  • Computer Science
  • Business Administration
  • Economics

The choice of subsidiary subject is made during the degree programme, e.g. after the first or second semester.

You usually complete your studies in the sixth semester with a bachelor's dissertation, which you write under the supervision of a supervisor of your choice.

Most of the events in the B.Sc. Mathematics program are held in German, although some may be conducted in English.
